Keeping on Track with Original Design

4th January, 2017 | posted by IAE Media

Following the need for a major two-year refurbishment of the existing Hayes & Harlington train station, IAE were approached with the task of matching a centuries old ornate steel railing around the station. Working closely with the fencing contractor and architect, the brief was to supply a new replacement section of railing sympathetic to the original design but with a contemporary twist.

This created many challenges which included the sourcing of finials and custom made scrolls to match the existing railing, along with the added requirement of meeting the architect vision of a thirteen colour rainbow effect finish. An addition complication to this project was the need for the railing to follow the gradual slope of the roadway outside the station. This was overcome using a decorative sweeping height transition on each of the ornate posts.

Despite the challenges all of the required elements came together to create a contemporary and striking recreation of a classic design.
