River Mersey Flood Defences

28th July, 2014 | posted by IAE Media

IAE have been commissioned with the job of bringing an attractive appearance to flood defences along the River Mersey in Warrington.

In conjunction with Town & Country Fencing at Market Drayton, IAE were given the brief to design and manufacture a bespoke fencing to complement a government funded vision for a new wave design flood defence along a stretch of the River Mersey. Along with the task of brightening up what would normally be an uninspiring stretch of concrete wall, there was the added complication of matching up the intricate wave design and post fixings with the angled lifting points of the pre-cast concrete blocks that made up the lower flood defence.  IAE liaised with both the architect and Environmental Agency to fulfil their design requirements, while providing a solution that kept their project within budget.

This prestigious £6.5 million flood defence project has been installed along a 1km stretch of the A5061 in Warrington not only to protect over 1500 properties and businesses in the adjacent residential area but also the sports and social facilities housed within Victoria Park. The project has included new security fencing for the local bowling green situated within the park and the complete redesign of the park entrance which has revitalised the appearance and access to the park facilities. IAE feel honoured to have been involved in such a high profile and community based project which has already protected this community from recent flooding and is set to protect the local residents for many years to come.
