Oswestry Market Official Opening March 2015

19th March, 2015 | posted by IAE Media

Oswestry Market officially opened in March 2015, welcoming farmers from across the region. The multi-million pound redevelopment will increase capacity and encourage farmers to travel to the new Shrewsbury site.

The market on its current site had been operating since 1967 and huge investment has taken place in the last 12 months to ensure that Oswestry continues to have one of the most active and up to date livestock markets in the UK.

The first part of the redevelopment was to relocate the cattle sales ring and sheds into a new purpose built building with an adjacent lorry park, now covering 16 acres.

We at IAE were brought in to fit out the new building with cattle pens, sales ring, and handling/sorting races, with over 45 years of experience and technical expertise we were able to accommodate all the markets requirements.

As one of the largest one day markets in the UK and with a high volume of turnover of local livestock, the market can now provide first class facilities for all customers and buyers at the market.

The Mayor had this to say ” the Council is delighted to be a partner in this ambitious project. We congratulate the partners of Oswestry Livestock Auctions on their vision and commitment to this investment that is vital to the local economy.” Land released as part of the project now forms part of the major development that will bring various leisure, retail and entertainment facilities to the town

Roy Jones, chairman of Oswestry Livestock Auctions, said ‘these first class facilities for the farmers are going to be the best and will also improve customer service’
